The four great residences. These are four main heavenly realms in Bön cosmology: (1) srid pa gung sangs, a meeting place for the gods where they determine who will descend to rule on earth; (2) srid pa ye sangs, the residence of srid pa sangs po 'bum khri; (3) bar lha 'od gsal, where the gods go for purification before descending to or returning from earth; and (4) mgon btsun phywa (also spelled mgon mtshun phywa), which is the residence of khri rgyal khug pa; this heaven also contains a city called snar ma glegs bzhi, ruled by phywa rje ring dkar (also known as phywa rje sgam po), where the gods receive education.
