zhi ba 'od of the palace. An important member of the royal family in western Tibet, and the younger brother of lha byang chub 'od. The “palace” referred to in his name is sku mkhar nyi gzungs in pu hrangs; the inclusion of the title pho brang in his name seems to indicate that he was a member of the family of the pu hrangs kings, but was not a king himself (his brother 'od lde held the throne, as did his nephew tshe lde). zhi ba 'od was renowned as a translator, and translated several canonical tantric texts; colophons of his translations record that he was active at tho ling in gu ge. He is best remembered today for having written (possibly in 1032 or 1092) a decree (bka' shog) listing the names of inauthentic tantric works.
