District-controlling temples. A series of temples constructed by srong btsan sgam po, as part of a geomantic plan to "tame" the Tibetan landscape, in order to prepare the way for establishing the main temple in Lhasa, and ultimately a Tibetan state. In a divination made by his Chinese bride, the landscape was conceptualized as a supine demoness; an array of temples and stupas was then constructed at specific points on the body of the demoness, pinning her to the ground.
