Passage

, 1: 640.5.

This passage examines in detail the limitations of being a householder (defined on 640.5) within the pratimokṣa framework (see so so thar pa). The householder status is regarded as the threshold to evil life forms [641.4], in consideration of various factors such as the "65 evils of women" (see bud med). Thus, 'Jigs med gling pa calls the householder life a life of bondage while viewing the renunciate life as one of freedom [641.4]. On the five qualities of householder (khyim na gnas pa chos lnga) see 642.3; and on the five trainings of a renunciate householder (byang chub sems dpa' khyim na gnas pa'i rab byung gi gnas lnga) see 643.1.
