  • Reperceiving (English, Latin script, Original)

The fundamental psychological mechanism of mindfulness practices, one of shifting perspective. Reperceiving occurs as a result of the mindfulness components of intention, attention, and attitude described above. Reperceiving is defined as a fundamental shift in perspective, so that one is able to step back from, and be less identified with, one’s own thoughts and emotions. In other words, by paying nonjudgmental attention to the contents of their consciousness, practitioners gain awareness that they are greater than their thoughts and emotions.
