Royal songs. This refers broadly to songs related to the Tibetan dynastic government. Songs are thought to have been an important element in the functioning of the dynasty, being used as methods of recording policy and records, of helping to incite alliance or war, or to add to the prestige of a ruler. Royal songs can be thought of as having two types: mgur and mchid.
