    • > grags pa seng ge (Tibetan, Latin script, Transliteration-THL Extended Wylie Transliteration)

A religious guardian (bka' skyong), who is a more recent addition to the Bön pantheon. He is related to chos grags rgya mtsho (1742-1792), the tenth zhwa dmar pa of the karma bka' brgyud tradition. chos grags rgya mtsho was involved in the 1792 Gorkha invasion of Tibet, so the Tibetan government confiscated all his property, and banned his reincarnation lineage. It is thus said that when he died, he became a negative spirit in Tibet. To pacify him, shes rab dgongs rgyal (1784-1835), an abbot of the Bön sman ri monastery, bound him to an oath to be a religious protector of sman ri. (Note that the spirit of grags pa rgyal mtshan was also converted into a dge lugs protector, rdo rje shugs ldan; the iconography of rdo rje shugs ldan and grags pa seng ge is similar, as both are depicted as Buddhist monks.)
