Probably synonymous with gompa (sgom pa), the highest ranking civil official in the administration of the Drikungpa ('bri gung pa) subsect of the Kagyü (bka' brgyud) tradition. This term seems to have been used in reference to the sgom pa in order to distinguish it from the position of gomchung (sgom chung), a “junior” sgom pa.
