  • མཐོང་བའི་དུག (Tibetan, Tibetan script, Original)
    • > mthong ba'i dug (Tibetan, Latin script, Transliteration-THL Extended Wylie Transliteration)

The poison of seeing. One element in an idiosyncratic and non-standard list of the “Five Poisons” (dug lnga) presented in the context of a Lion-faced Ḍākinī evocation. The other four are: reg pa'i dug, the poison of touch; kha rlangs kyi dug, the poison of exhaling; tshor ba'i dug, the poison of feeling; bsam pa'i dug, the poison of expectation. This may indicate a belief in the “evil eye,” which can harm or sicken from a distance; or perhaps the ability of certain creatures to paralyze their prey by staring at them.
